Wildflowers of the Northwest (that I have seen)

This wildflower is the Tiger Lily or Lilium Columbianum  named after our very own Columbia River.
The butterfly is a Swallowtail.
Taken on Hidden Falls Trail in Skamania County, Washington


















This wildflower is the Arrowleaf Balsamroot a member of the Sunflower family.
Native Americans ate the young shoots and roots in the spring and the seeds in the fall.
Taken on Dog Mountain Trail in The Columbia River Gorge.

This wildflower is the Indian Paintbrush North of North Sister.
There are 200 varieties of the Castilleja.
This is probably Castilleja Miniata.
Taken on the Pacific Crest Trail in Central Oregon in the Three Sisters Wilderness.


This wildflower is the Helmet Flower or Scutellaria Integrifolia




This wildflower is the Sticky Tofieldia, named for the sticky hairs in the stem.
Taken on the Oregon Coast Trail Near Cape Perpetua.









I cannot seem to identify these. These are in the saddle just north of Table Mountain Skamania County, Washington  on the Pacific Crest Trail.

This wildflower is the Siberian Miner's Lettuce or Candy Flower.
Found on the Cooks Ridge trail near Cape Perpetua.








This wildflower is the Orange Honeysuckle or Lonicera Ciliosa. 
Found on Silver Star Mountain Skamania County Washington

This wildflower is the Oregon Flag or Iris tenax. 
Tenax means tough and was named this because Indians used the leaves for nets and snares.
Found in Lacamas Lake Park in Camas Washington.


This wildflower is the Foxglove or Digitalis purpuria.
Found on Bell Mountain Trail, Clark County Washington. The butterfly is a Swallowtail.

The plant grows for two years then dies.The first year it produces no flower.

James Creek west of South Sister Oregon.

Salmonberry or Rubus spectabilis.
Lewis River Valley above Curley Creek Washington.


This wildflower is the White Western Groundsel or Senecio integerrimus var. ochroleucus

Dog Mountain Washington


This wildflower is the Western White Trillium turning purple with age. Tillium ovatum 

This wildflower is the Wood-Sorell Oxalis  or Oxalis acetosella, edible but sour


This wildflower is the Downy Yellow Violet or  Viola Pubescens


Yellow Monkey Flower or Mimus guttatus.
Found on Cummings Creek Trail South of Cape Perpetua Oregon coast



This wildflower is the Smith's Fairybell or Disporum smithii.
Found on Oregon Coast Trail south of Cape Perpetua















Cascade Mariposa Lily or Calorchortus subalpinas.
North of Mt Adams on Pacific Crest Trail.

Rough Wallflower or Erysium capitatum.
Found near the Metolious River in Central Oregon.



Indian Paintbrush, Lupine and Oxeye Daisy make a great natural bouquet.
Found on the Pacific Crest Trail on the Northwest side of Mount Adams.

This wildflower is the Pussy Paws or Cistanthe umbellata. Found on Mount Adams at about 7000 feet.

This wildflower is the Hood's Phlox or Phlox hoodii.
Found on the north side of Mount Adams at about 7000 feet.
